Helping Youths Reach Self-Sufficiency – A weekend course (Friday 3 – 8 PM, Saturday 9AM – 4 PM, Sunday 9 AM – 1 PM) for foster parents serving teens and young adults in their home. Agencies are encouraged to ask foster parents serving youths to attend as part of a comprehensive effort to help youths transition successfully. Foster parents will be asked to share the information they learn with other foster (or resource) parents in their community. They will be provided resources to help them share their knowledge. (lodging and meals, except Saturday evening, are provided.)

Real World Simulation Instructional (Blended Course) - A one-day classroom seminar following a 4 hour online curriculum available at www.adolescentrealworld.com. This course is available to anyone wishing to learn to coordinate a simulation event in their community. The class normally includes a diverse group of professionals serving adolescents in North Carolina in a variety of way: workforce development, mental health, teen preganancy supports, child welfare, education, juvenile justice, etc. Participants are expected to convert what they have learned into a one-day Real World Simulation event for adolescents in their community. Under contract with NCDHHS, ILR mentors one community each year through the planning process. If you wish to be one of the mentored communities, please contact Nancy Carter.
