Dear Prospective Research Participant,

I am writing to tell you about a study on youth who spent time in foster care and early adulthood conducted by Brenden Hargett, Ph.D Candidate at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina as Dissertation research.  You were recommended to participate in this study due to your relationship with the Foster Care Alumni Association of America, Independent Living Resources, Inc. and/or as having spent time in foster care.    

The overall goal of this study is to learn about former foster youth experiences while in foster care that can inform foster care system personnel to better address the needs of youth while in foster care.  You may be eligible for this study if you: 1) spent at least one day in foster care; are 2) 18-25 years old; and 3) identify as an African American male.  

It is important to know that this information is not to tell you to join this study.  It is your decision.  Your participation is voluntary and your responses will be anonymous.  Whether or not you participate in this study will have no effect on your relationship with the Foster Care Alumni Association of America, Independent Living Resources, Inc or any other group you may be associated with.
