Using the Newspaper to Teach Basic Living Skills

Here's a way to link literacy and language with life skills. More than 50 activities lead youth to local newspaper information, and then apply it to real-life situations. Youths will practice filling out job applications, finding an apartment, using the classified ads, managing money, buying food, using the Internet, and more. Instructor support includes: objectives, stepped direction, material lists, and extension activities.
Best Use: Independent living coordinators, teachers, youth group leaders, and other youth serving professionals. This resource may be used individually or with groups to promote discussion.
